This blog is for you.
You are not like most of the people around you. You care. About people, about outcomes, about making a difference. You take responsibility and make things better.
You recognize that you can’t afford to wait for permission to do your best work. You take the initiative and the risk to just change things that need to be changed. You are not subversive, but you know how to steer.
You are not content with the status quo. Apathy is your nemesis and with every day that passes you are beating it into submission.
You are willing to endure discomfort on your way to doing great things. This makes you different. It makes you remarkable. You do the hard work everyone else avoids and, as a result, others look to you for guidance because they recognize that you are not self-serving. You seek to use your authority and influence to help others and quietly change the world.
And through all of it you are always aware of the truth: It isn’t actually about you.
My name is Geoff Welch and this blog is a love letter to people (like you) who take responsibility to make things better. I am amazed by people who live their lives with great purpose, believing they can truly be the change they want to see in the world.
These people, whether they are janitors, CEO’s, accountants, or musicians, are truly Tiny Empires. They care about the work they are doing even if it isn’t glamorous (or in spite of it’s glamour) because they know it matters. They know it makes things better.
I applaud these remarkable people and this blog is my way of inspiring and encouraging them to keep doing the amazing work they are gifted to do.
